  • Temperature: In an outdoor cage, the most drawback part is maintaining the temperature. You can keep your Glider there as long as it is 60-80f. Once the temperature drops or rises from it, you have to bring them inside the house and protect them. 
  • Enough Space: You must not choose any hamster cage for keeping them outside. Sugar Gliders need enough space for movement and to live freely. Make Sure after placing the food water or toy, your Glider can’t get enough space for playing inside the cage.  
  • Avail Enough Entertainment Option: In the cage, keep some toy props like artificial branches, ladders, or tier waterfall toys for their entertainment. These will certainly keep them busy and make their life inside the cage happier. 
  • Giving Sufficient Company: As you are keeping them outside of the house, in this case, they should be given sufficient company. Here it’s not an option, it’s a must! For this, keep more than one Glider together. It will be good if you keep more than three. The reason behind this is, that if one Glider is sick or dead, the other two can manage to stay together. 
  • Provide Proper Foods: There should always be availability of foods along with clear water. Choose any of the nutritious diets for your Glider. Maintain the food amount strictly and keep the cage surface clean. Along with that, do change the water regularly.  
  • Make The Cage Environment Comforting: You must keep the cage environment comfortable. Keep the nest box inside the cage. It will improve their sleeping habits. Moreover, at night they can be in a more secure position. 
  • Take Measures For Extreme Weather:  Keep a double-line spelling pouch inside the cage along with the normal pouch.  They can use it if needed.  However, if you live in a very humid area, dehumidifiers may be required inside the cage.
  • Avoid  Direct Sunlight:  Keep the cage in such a way that it will avoid any direct sunlight. Direct sunlight is detrimental to Gliders. So properly place the case.

Especially for the Glider under 5 months, you should be aware of the lighting, odor, safety, and temperature of their surroundings. Moreover, you can place their cage out of your room. Choose a safe place where your baby companions will remain safe. But you cannot keep them outside of the house.

  • Direct Sunlight:  You have to place the cage in such a way that it is not exposed to direct sunlight. As a nocturnal animal, Sugar Gliders don’t like to be in direct sunlight. They are usually active during the night. So their environment gets altered because of light pollution.  All these happen because of Glider’s unique structure of eyes. 
  • Safety Issues: You must ensure the safety of your Gliders after keeping them outside. The fact cannot be avoided that a captive Glider doesn’t have that type of survival instinct. So, you need to take this in mind. Make sure, there are no sharp objects around their cage.
  • Bond With Sugar Gliders: It can be difficult to bond with Sugar Gliders if you keep them outside for a long time. For this, you must make a strong bond with your Gliders before putting them into an outside cage. So there is no alternative to taking out some time for your Suggies! 
  • Checking about the Food: You must check the food available inside the case.  Make sure, they are getting all the nutrients properly. Most importantly, the calcium and phosphorus ratio of the fruit must be maintained. Any type of food scarcity will be bad for your Gliders. 

Is It Safe For The Wild Sugar Gliders Living Outside? 

The point is wild sugar Gliders have already become habitual with living outside. It’s not entirely safe for them to live like this but a wild Sugar Glider cannot be captive. All you can do is build a nest box in their habitat trees. It will make their life easy to some extent.
